Past Events

We at CanSupport organize a number of events each year to create awareness about cancer, our work in the field of palliative care and to raise much needed funds for our services that are rendered free

CanSupport organized a charity dinner and an evening of “Art and Arias” – at the residence of the Ambassador of France on Saturday, 10th April 2010.


It was an evening with magical setting under the full moon night. On display were works from the collections of the prominent fine art photographer Rohit Chawla. Rohit Chawla is a fashion photographer who comes out as non- conventional with his current concept of wearable art. He showcased the iconic paintings as a tribute to Raja Ravi Varma, an attempt to recreate his legacy through these images of contemporary women.

A musical score by opera singer Situ Singh Buehler added to the fun of the party evening. She was accompanied by Sunando Rao – Erdem  (Sopranos) and Rajiv Khatri (tenor) and by Andrei Demidenko on the keyboard.. Later on Music was added to the dinner by DJ Rummy Sharma.

Diplomats, celebrities, corporate heads and individuals from all walks of life formed select group of 140 people who attended the performance and enjoyed a dinner and drink hosted by the French Ambassador in India.


‘Brief Candle’, fundraiser play on October 26, 2009

 
‘Brief Candle’, a  play written by Mahesh Dattani and produced and directed by Lillete Dubey, was staged on 26th October at the Shri Ram Centre Auditorium in Delhi to raise funds for CanSupport’s free of charge home care service for cancer patients . Harmala Gupta, President CanSupport, believes that the theme of ‘Brief Candle’ spoke to the struggle each one of us will inevitably face at the end of life and , therefore of relevance to everyone CanSupport’s home care teams are trained to help people make the most of the time they have left, which is what the play was all about.


The outstanding cast of Suchitra Pillai, Joy Sengupta, Amar Talwar, Zafar Karachiwala, Satchit Puranik and Manasi Parekh announced that they were proud to be associated with CanSupport and its mission. The event was supported by the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day Celebration-10th October 2009:



The theme this year was ‘Discovering your Voice’: hospice supporters, employees, patients, family members and carers shared their stories in a film shown on this occasion. There was also a musical performance by Prof. Madan Gopal Singh and friends, organized at the Baha’i House of Worship auditorium, New Delhi, as part of the global ‘Voices for Hospice’ concert.

Classical dancer Padmashri Geeta Chandran andher Natya Vriksha Dance Company performed, “Visions of Inner Space”, in aid of CanSupport in  New Delhi on 3rd October 2009.



The setting was magical as it was held under a full moon night in gardens of the residence of the Ambassador of Belgium in New Delhi. Geeta Chandran, a celebrated dancer and choreographer whose name is synonymous with Bharatnatyam, is known for the high aesthetic quality of her presentations as well as for her innovations. This was evident in the last piece she performed with her troupe of dancers which was a depiction of the change in seasons in Bharatnatyam style set to music from Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet ‘Swan Lake’. Diplomats, celebrities, corporate heads and individuals from all walks of life formed the select group of 250 people who attended the performance and enjoyed a dinner afterwards, catered by ‘Mismo’ .Guests had a chance to win two round-trip business class tickets to Europe courtesy Etihad Airways in a raffle.





‘Paavas Prasang’,-an evening of Hindustani classical music with eminent artiste, Shubha Mudgal, 29 August 2009.

 Shubha Mudgal, weaved her magic with, “Paavas Prasang”, a special performance in aid of CanSupport, with her classical and semi-classical compositions on the theme of the monsoon. She was accompanied by Aneesh Pradhan on the tabla and Sudhir Nayak on the harmonium . ‘Paavas Prasang’ was an ode to Varsha, or the monsoon, which has for ages inspired a wealth of poetry and music.

Shubha Mudgal commenced her vocal recital with various perceptions of the Varsha Ritu. She enthralled the audience with the skilled manipulation of her deep and resonant voice. Her recital was full of lyrical depth, grace and divine magic. The memorable music concert gave a complete index of the acclaimed versatility and capability of maestro Shubha Mudgal.




 

 
Antigone

We were pleased to have Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah back to perform for our annual fundraiser in 2008. On August 23 and 24, 2008, they performed along with a stellar cast in ‘Antigone’, a play produced by Motley, at the Epicentre in Gurgaon. It was an adaptation of Sophocles' tragic play of the same name written by Jean Anouilh and was directed by Pt. Satyadev Dubey. Not surprisingly, it played to packed houses on both days. A truly memorable experience!
 



World Hospice Day, 2008
Participants at a workshop on “Seeking Meaning from Life in the Face of Death”.
On October 11, 2008, World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, CanSupport held a full day workshop at the India International Centre together with the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of HH The Dalia Lama. The purpose of the workshop was to bring people facing a terminal diagnosis of cancer, or a caregiver nursing some one with  a terminal diagnosis, face to face with clergy representing different religions traditions with the intention of finding ways to help cope with death and grief.

 



Shekhar Sen performs in his musical mono-act play, “Vivekanand”.
On Saturday, January 7, 2006, Shekhar Sen, widely acclaimed in India and abroad for his fine one-man performances, gave a performance of “Vivekanand” in aid of CanSupport at the Baha’i House of Worship.
