I will never forget the moments at CanSupport and I so want my colleagues to know of your work and your part as a survivor in making cancer a subject and disease that can be mitigated in a country so large and yet with so much promise. ”

“Thank you so much for all you did for us on our trip. It was so touching to see your services. You all are doing very good things and we were very inspired. We wish you the very best and hope to see you again one of these days soon!”
Eric Brinker

CanSupport has shown me how to lead a quality life without foregoing my normal household routine. I won’t say fear has vanished or that I do not have bouts of depression, but I feel fortunate to have their support when I need it.
Mohna Venugopalan (a patient)

When I was diagnosed with cancer of the colon, the shock was so immense that I was speechless for two days. Subsequently, I was operated upon. But soon after being discharged other complications arose. It became really unbearable. That’s when one of my daughters-in-law suggested that I speak to CanSupport. We had already spent a fortune on my treatment and I asked her how much I would have to pay for consultation and counseling. I couldn’t believe it when I was told it was free.
Meera (a patient)

On behalf of my family I wanted to thank you and your friendly team for all the support you provided to my father and to us. Your generosity, your patience, your willingness to help is greatly appreciated. It is truly people like you and your team that causes us to have a renewed faith in humanity. Thanks very much.
Nilu (a daughter and caregiver)

We are grateful to CanSupport for their support, guidance and care during the last stages of our beloved father. We enjoyed talking with the team. He was much satisfied and died in peace.
The K.L Mehra family

My father passed away. My family and I thank the CanSupport team for the amazing help and support given to us and my father to fight cancer since the last 2 years. We were groping in the dark when all doors of medical health closed on us, it was then that a miracle happened and my prayers were answered in the form of CanSupport. Thank you and your team for being there for us. My mother joins me in thanking you.
Mala Chugh (a patient’s daughter)

I am so thankful to you for visiting my mother. You won’t believe how much she was relieved on that day. The approach, careful listening and understanding the pain and suffering of the patient by your doctors and social workers have touched my heart. We were left alone in this commercial world and no moral or emotional support came from our relatives and friends.
Anurag Bhatnagar (a patient’s son)

Before her final departure to the ‘Other World’ my beloved wife, Archana, had suffered with most deadly disease (cancer) for full one year. During the last 10 days of her life she was at home and had been under palliative care.

While discharging her from the hospital, the doctors referred one NGO (CanSupport)… I contacted these people and to my surprise, the team with one nurse and one doctor visited my house next day, they gave very useful suggestions keeping in mind, the then, state of health of my love. They arranged an air bed also to keep her slightly comfortable and tidy as she was unable even to move those days… they do not charge even a single paisa, even for the home visits.
Rohit Gautam (a patient’s husband)

Fortunate are those who happen to get favorable company as a guide and sympathetic counseling by a life partner and your doctors while in distress.
In my case, both are there with me and who are comforting me – a God sent gift.
Rajendra Kumar Rateja (a patient)

What patients and families who visit our day care sessions on Mondays and Fridays have said:

"I look forward to coming here on Friday. I get ready very early. Even if I have radiation, I get it done early in the morning."

"Before coming here, we're like an oil lamp that burns dimly. After coming here the oil is replenished and there is a great glow in us!"

"Coming here is a welcome break from our dull, boring routine in the dharamshala."

"We find ourselves supported and comforted and go back with more courage."

"In the dharamshala, we do support each other, but sometimes living amidst patients and illness can make you hopeless. Coming here makes me go back with hope."

What those who attended our last Walk for Life event, on February 15, 2009, had to say:

I was simply amazed by the passion and devotion with which the whole walk was organised. I walked the ‘Walk for Life-Stride Against Cancer’ with my friends and the experience was really enthralling.

Vivek Narain, Vice-President, Global Business Relations

It was a lovely walk and I was so glad to be part of it. You are doing outstanding work.
Brinda Dubey

It was a pleasure to take part in such a worthwhile event, particularly on such a beautiful day. It’s not an undertaking, I think it raises the spirits of all those who are involved!
Mandy Cunningham

It is a pleasure to support, in whatever capacity I can, your great efforts and a remarkable organization like CanSupport.
Ravi Bali

The mood in the crowd was superlative and I’m sure that touched all who came.
Amrita Achanta

I really enjoyed the walk- I think it did a lot for his confidence to feel that he could do something for others. And please don’t thank me, it is a privilege to be associated with you and CanSupport.
Mythili Bhusnurmath

…a Divine Force made it (the walk) happen! This is the Force that keeps watch over CanSupport, Bless this organisation for what it does… The sight of all those happy people, children and dogs in blue and white and yellow, made our hearts smile...here's to the people of Delhi!
Nadira Chaturvedi

I have learned how the spirit and the willingness of people can change things around. I believe that anything is possible when you have the commitment and the determination to make it work.
Roxana Balderrama

That was a very good Walk. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to be part of it again. The Ambassador and Mrs. Mulford also enjoyed every bit of it. The participation this year was amazing.
Unni Menon, Country Media Advisor, U.S. Embassy, New Delhi

What our visitors from home and abroad had to say:

We were honoured by the visit of HM Queen Paola of Belgium, with the accompanying royal team, to CanSupport. She received a traditional welcome from the patients as she walked into the day care. Later, she listened attentively as patients and their caregivers shared their stories with her. She was visibly touched when one of the patients referred to his wife as his prerna (inspiration) and reason for living. She remarked on the courage and resilience she saw and heard that morning.

Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, President of one of the largest foundations for breast cancer in the US, visited us in October, 2008. She made a visit to the home of a breast cancer patient to get an idea of the challenges faced by ordinary women in India. She was of the opinion that such women could become a catalyst for change in their local communities. Her visit to the day care with her son provided her with an opportunity to share the story of her sister’s illness which had inspired her to start ‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure’, named after her sister. Today, Komen’s ‘Race for the Cure’ raises millions of dollars for breast cancer research and has spawned similar efforts worldwide. Her hope is that we shall soon have a simple, affordable and effective diagnostic tool which will detect breast cancer early.

Lady Arabella Stagg, wife of the British High Commissioner in India, and her daughter Imogene, Sonoko Mitsui Dreyer, wife of the Swiss Ambassador to India, Francesca Toscano, wife of the Italian Ambassador to India and Mohini Menon, President of the External Affairs Spouses Association were among other prominent visitors to our day care centre. We thank all of them for their support and encouragement and for the consideration they showed our patients and their families.

The Tom and Sheila Springer Charity’s association with CanSupport began in 2005. In February 2009, Dr. Robin Mulcahy, a trustee of the charity, visited CanSupport. He spent the morning with children and their parents at our day care and watched with interest as the caregivers did their deep breathing and relaxation exercises while the children drew and painted. Later in the day, Dr. Mulcahy visited two of our home care patients. In a message to our President, this is how Dr. Mulcahy summed up his visit to CanSupport: “I was humbled and enchanted by my welcome at CanSupport and especially in the children’s clinic. Thank you all. Your work is incomparable and I feel so angry that you are not more valued in India!”
