CanSupport is a Delhi based NGO, established in 1996, providing palliative care at home to people with advanced cancer in Delhi and its environs, free of cost. Palliative care is a well-established medical sub-specialty and concentrates on ensuring the best quality of life possible to patients with a life limiting condition like cancer. CanSupport has pioneered this care and has developed an expertise in what is an important but neglected area of care. The organization is also committed to disseminating its expertise and sharing its experience by providing training and conducting research in palliative care.
We have 5 palliative care field centres in Delhi and NCR, each field centre with upto three teams doctors, nurses and counsellors. They work as a multi-disciplinary unit to deliver crucial holistic care to patients at their homes in a designated area around the field centre. A CanSupport vehicle and driver is at the disposal of each team.
We are looking for MBBS doctors for two of our field centres, in SOUTH DELHI (RK Puram, Sector 12) and FARIDABAD (Sector 37, about 1 km from Badarpur Border). You shall be working with your team based at one of the above field centres. Working times are from 9 am to 6 pm for five days per week. There may be occasional need to handle patient emergency calls outside these hours.
You must hold an MBBS degree with at least 3 years experience as a general physician. You should have good command over spoken English and Hindi and excellent communication skills. Basic knowledge of computer operations (MS Office) is preferred but not essential. You must be prepared to undergo an induction program, which may be for a period of 15 to 30 days from your day of appointment, depending on your acumen, with one of our senior palliative care physicians. Your salary will be commensurate with your qualification and experience.
As part of the interdisciplinary palliative care team, you shall visit patients at their residence and assess their physical and medical needs. Based on the assessment, you will develop, with the team, a management plan of care for each patient to provide integrated, coordinated care. The plan should be consistent with patient and family goals. You will provide to the patients comprehensive medical care and pain management that will be aimed at enhancing their comfort and quality of life. You will provide support and education to the patient and family, including teaching them about the expected course of disease, preventive care, medication use, and self-management and crisis intervention in the home
You will liaise with healthcare providers and institutions as well as pertinent government/ non-government bodies with whom CanSupport has professional relationships for referrals and for raising awareness of palliative care. You will also help in establishing links with new stakeholders to increase enrollment of patients. You will participate in provision of appropriate training in palliative care for CanSupport staff and also for external participants.
