| You no doubt know some one in your circle of family and friends who has been touched by cancer. Some one who should have access to the information and resources they need to navigate the difficult terrain that lies ahead after a diagnosis of cancer. You also know that cancer affects everyone who cares for that person and yet families and friends have no one to guide or support them at this critical time. You may also be aware that besides affecting the body, cancer saps the will and the spirit. The need of the hour is for treatments that take a compassionate and holistic view and see you as a person with a disease rather than as an “interesting case”. What you may not know is that cancer is poised to grow exponentially in India in the coming decades and that the majority of those diagnosed with cancer will seek treatment only when the disease has reached an advanced stage. |

CanSupport was started in 1996 with a vision and a mission that looked ahead and recognized the need to prepare for this eventuality.
Our VISION is that of a caring and supportive society where people with cancer and their families live with dignity, hope and comfort.
Our MISSION is to enable people with advanced cancer and their families to make informed choices and decisions and to receive appropriate physical, emotional, social and spiritual support.
Over the last twelve years, CanSupport has built up, step by step, vital services that meet the need for information, holistic care and support, comfort and hope, and embrace both the person with cancer and the family. There is a telephone helpline for information and referrals, a home-based palliative care programme that brings trained professionals to the doorstep of patients, and a day care service run by volunteers that offers rest and recreation, hospitality, healing therapies and support from peers. While we currently reach out to 500 patients and four times that number of relatives through our programmes, our plan is to double these numbers by the end of this year.
